Southern Arts Society Exhibit
Gateways to the South October 2 – November 2, 2018
Join us for the reception this Saturday October 6, 2018 • 6 – 8 pm • Awards at 7 pm
Gateways to the South art competition and exhibit opens this week at Southern Arts Society in Kings Mountain. This is a judged show with cash prizes. This annual exhibit features landscapes, historical sites, and the people and places that reflect our Southern history and culture, from the past to present day. Local artists have interpreted our southern landscape, well known landmarks and cherished memories in painting, photography and sculpture.
Judging the artwork is Michael Grady, Professor of Art at Appalachian State University. Grady is an exhibiting artist, writer and educator. Throughout his career, Grady has been involved in a variety of activities and organizations which promote art as a self-integrative activity and force for cultural transformation. Grady sees the future of art as necessarily integrating a variety of cultural concepts; self and community; spirit and healing. He continues to write, lecture and exhibit his paintings internationally.
Gateways to the South will be on display in the galleries of Southern Arts Society through November 2, 2018.
There will be a public reception at Southern Arts Society on Saturday evening October 6 from 6 until 8 p.m. Awards will be presented at 7 pm. This is a free event. Dress is casual.
