Southern Arts Society’s I Am Woman art exhibit and competition is on view now through April 22, 2022. Artists from around the region have entered over sixty works of art dedicated to the feminine or the essence of being a woman. Artists have created works in oil, acrylic, watercolor, photography, sculpture, fiber and mixed media to interpret their view of I Am Woman. Many pieces in this year’s show reflect both the strength and the serenity that women exude over the course of their lives, in good times and bad. Women are shown as the mother figure – hardworking and resilient throughout all the trials and pain that life brings. And some pieces show that women are still girls who just want to have fun.

Artwork in this exhibit will be judged with prizes awarded for first, second and third place prizes along with three merit awards. Judging this year’s show is Susan Carlisle Bell, former Professor of Art at Gardner Webb University.

The public is invited to attend a reception for I Am Woman on Saturday March 12 from 6-8 pm to meet the artists. Presentation of awards to the artists will be at 7 pm. This is a free event and dress is casual. Photos of the exhibit and a list of the winners will be posted on their website and other social media. Artwork in the exhibit is available for sale.

In addition to gallery exhibits, Southern Arts Society represents over 75 regional artists offering fine arts and fine crafts in their Gift Shop where you will find a large array of jewelry, textiles, paintings, pottery, glass, metal, and paper for home décor and gifts. The Gift Shop will be open during the reception.
