Artworks in Colored Pencil 2019
January 8 – February 8, 2019
A public reception will be held Sunday January 13 from 2-4 pm to meet the artists.
Artworks in Colored Pencil fills the galleries at Southern Arts Society (SASi)through February 8. Featured in the show are some of the artists in the Colored Pencil Group that meets monthly at SASi. The group began meeting in March 2017 with individuals who were interested in learning current techniques using colored pencils as a fine art medium. While colored pencils have been around for a long time, use of the medium has grown in recent years. Pencils and paper are easy to transport, don’t take up a lot of room, are not as messy as paint and can fit into any time frame you have to give. Colored pencil artistry is becoming more accepted as a fine art medium in galleries and art shows.
Over the past two years, there has been a consistent group of 20 plus artists coming together to share their expertise and artwork, constantly striving to better themselves as color pencil artists. Under the leadership of fellow artist Ronald Shepard, they learn the difference between the various color pencils on the market, the pros and cons of different brands, and the many types of papers and various mediums that can be used with pencils.
Participating artists:
Todd Baxter, Donna Biddix, Clint Bouldin, Susan Chandler, Rheta Conley, Hilde Deprez, Colin R. Dyer, Janet Dyer, Darlene Godfrey, Isabelle Griesmyer, Claye Hodge, Janet Littlejohn Kaufman, Kyliegh Kite, Terry D. Knudsen, Lori McAdams, Jennifer McGinnis, Susie Neely, Jacqueline Ramey, Terry Ratchford, Ron Shepard, and Jan Welborn. The works on exhibit are as different as each artist, showing their versatility and individuality. Much of the artwork is available for sale.
The public is invited to a reception Sunday January 13, from 2-4 pm, to meet the artists and learn more about this fast growing medium. This is a free event. Dress is casual. The exhibit will be on view through February 8.
The Color Pencil Group continues to meet the last Thursday of each month from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The group welcomes anyone with a desire to learn more about color pencil to attend their meetings. All levels of artists are welcome, no prior experience necessary.
