Currently on exhibit at SASi is Natural Beauties, an exhibit and sale of finely crafted objects made primarily from natural materials. Artists working in clay, fiber, glass, gourds, metal, and wood have created both functional and decorative items that are for sale. While some art forms remain traditional, many artists have given these natural materials a decidedly updated and original twist. There is something special and unique about every object as it relates to something made from the earth. Sixteen artists are participating in this year’s show: Janet Baxter, Marygrace Bianco, Hilde Deprez, Joan Fogle, Liani Foster, Sue Helmken, Timmy Hord, Joe Doug Knotts, Marie D. Lafitte, Tammy Lafitte, Barry Lockman, Bertie McClain, Betty McConnell, Sarah Monteleone, Rebecca Newsome, Alex Pietersen.

The public is invited to attend a reception for Natural Beauties on Saturday May 13 from 6 until 8 pm. This is a free event and dress is casual. Many of the artists will be on hand to meet and discuss their artwork. Natural Beauties will be on view in the Reavis Gallery at Southern Arts Society now through June 9.

Also, on view in the Founders Gallery, is artwork by the late A.B. Mauney Snow. Miss Snow helped to found Southern Arts Society (SASi) in 1984. She died in 2003, just as the Society made their home in the historic railway depot, where they remain today. Miss Snow painted in a variety of media – acrylic, oil, pastel, and watercolor, which was her primary medium. All of her work in the exhibit is available for sale.
