What exactly IS scratchboard – and how do you use it? Join us at SASi for a hands-on learning experience with ALL MATERIALS PROVIDED!
This workshop will provide a brief overview of the medium, its history, its tools, and techniques, how to add color, and how to protect finished scratchboard drawings.
Each student will recieve two small scratchboards to use and keep after the class; scratch tools, ink, and brushes will be provided for their use during class. This class will provide hands-on experience in two basic scratchboard methods: vignette drawing on a white background and drawing on a solid black background.

About the Artist

Lori is an artist and designer in the Charlotte, North Carolina region. Her educational background includes: BFA Parsons School of Design, and MA UNC Charlotte.

Her non-digital work is created primarily with scratchboard, watercolor, acrylic, or colored pencil. In the past I’she has worked in oil, pen and ink, and intaglio. Her background is in traditional art and illustration, and also creates digital works with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch, and Ink. She is looking to merge the physical and digital mediums.

Her  illustrations (since 2000) have included book covers targeted for YA, SciFi-Fan, and sales motivation. Other illustrations have been for commercial advertising and non-profit event promotions.

Her work has been exhibited in the The Charlotte Art League Gallery, Kings Mountain Art Center in Kings Mountain, NC, Arts on Main in Gastonia, and the Jeanne Rauch Gallery at Gaston College in Dallas, NC.
