Three Voices – Three Views: Landscape Painters Kathleen McDermott – Kim Painter – Gene Tennison

Southern Arts Society is honored to present the works of three local artists who all paint landscapes, working in a variety of media. These three artists each offer a distinct lens through which to experience their environment. Kim Painter, Kathleen McDermott and Gene Tennison all shared a love for art early on in their lives, taking time away – sometimes years – for work and family life, then later returning to painting to express how they see the world. Here, on canvas, they weave together three divergent styles, the meticulous clarity of realism; the lush, light-filled brushwork of impressionism; and the emotional resonance of semi-abstraction. They remind us that a landscape is more than a place. It is a feeling, a record of time, and a living dialogue between the land and the observer.
Spanning over 60 works of varying scales, this exhibition fills the galleries at Southern Arts Society with the beauty of our natural world. From intimate studies to sweeping vistas, these pieces capture the fleeting moments that define our surroundings.

Public Reception

Meet the artists Kim, Kathleen and Gene at a public reception on Saturday, September 26, from 5-7 pm.
The artists will give a gallery talk at 6 pm.
This is a Free Event. Dress is casual.

The artists are each offering several Special Events to coincide with the Three Voices, Three Views Exhibit.

Kathleen McDermott will do two free demonstrations, one for a mountain scene on Saturday, September 12, and one for sunsets on Saturday, Oct 17, both at 1 pm.

Gene Tennison will teach a 2-day workshop on Glazing Techniques for Landscape painting using acrylics on September 19-20, from 1-5 pm each day. Cost is $120 for SASi Members, and $150 for Non-Members.

Kim Painter has an Oil & Cold Wax workshop on Sat Oct 3 from 10-3. The cost is $85 for SASi members and $100 for Non-Members.
