Walking in their Shoes II: Go Figure
The Paintings of Lucy Warlick
APR 16 – JUNE 12, 2026
Opening Reception Saturday, April 25, 6-8 PM
Open to the Public
Lucy Warlick’s current paintings continue to show her main goal: to entice the viewer to exercise their “empathy muscles” by putting themselves “into the shoes” of the subjects of her paintings, reflecting on their own lives while imagining what’s happening in the paintings.
Most of the paintings reference the Library of Congress’ collections, with the exception of her newest series “Caught” which features fishermen, women and children she photographed at the Springmaid Pier in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Lucy Warlick is a native of Florida who lived 20 years in Charlotte, NC before moving across the state line to live in Clover, SC, with her husband Tom, in their pre-civil war farmhouse. In college, Lucy gave up her art major for English literature and taught English for 16 years, before returning to art. Her paintings have been exhibited in both North and South Carolina.
Walking in Their Shoes, Part 2: Go Figure – The Paintings of Lucy Warlick will be on view through June 12, 2026 in the galleries at Southern Arts Society. You can see more images on Southern Arts Society’s website and Facebook page. Artwork in the exhibit is available for sale.
