Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Our Historic Southern Railway Depot

Southern Arts Society is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the historic Southern Railway Depot that is their home. Artists from around the region were invited to create art that speaks to the history and power of moving by rail. Over forty works of art have been entered to compete for prizes totaling $1,500. Judging the work will be Ashley Lathe, Instructor of Art at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, NC.

Bowers, Ellen Devenny, Janet Dyer, Darlene Godfrey, Anne Harkness, Timmy Hord, Dennis Huntley, Kimberlye Joyce, Carolyn Kemp, Robert ‘Robin’ Klar, Emma Kay Lewis, Kathleen Marie Pope, Bertie McClain, Janie McVay, Martha Moore, Alex Pietersen, Patricia Pietersen, Jerry Pruitt, Rebecca Rowe, Jill R. Shuford, Taylor Stump, Lucy Warlick, and Natylie Zolo.
 
A public reception will be held Saturday September 20 from 6 to 8 pm. Awards will be presented at 7 pm. The public are invited to attend and meet the artists. This is a free event. Dress is casual. The exhibition runs September 10th through November 1, 2025.
 
Southern Arts Society (SASi) Gift Shop & Gallery is located at 301 N. Piedmont Ave. at the intersection of Piedmont and Battleground Avenues in the historic Southern Railway Depot. SASi offers a gift shop, ongoing art exhibitions and competitions, programs and classes in a variety of media for artists of all levels.
